WELCOME
I am so excited to work with you and your family to capture some amazing moments together. As a photographer, I believe that the best family photos come from capturing your family in a natural and comfortable setting, doing the things that you love to do together.
Whether it's playing board games, cooking a meal, or going for a walk in your favorite park, I want to capture those special moments that truly showcase your family's unique personality and dynamic. So don't worry about trying to be picture-perfect, just be yourselves and let me do the rest!
In this guide, I will share some tips and tricks to help you prepare for your session and make the most of our time together. From choosing outfits to picking a location, I've got you covered. So sit back, relax, and let's create some beautiful memories together!
How to Prepare
Preparing for your photo session can make all the difference in creating beautiful, natural photos of your family. One important thing you can do is to talk to your kids about the session beforehand. Let them know that we'll be spending some time together taking pictures, and that we'll be in a place where they feel comfortable and doing things they often do as a family.
To make sure everyone is well-rested and in good spirits, try to schedule the session during a time of day when everyone is typically at their best. And don't worry about getting everyone to look perfectly posed and smiling at the camera - my goal is to capture real moments and connections between you and your loved ones.
Think through some activities you like to do as a family. What are the everyday things that may seem mundane but are something you will really want to remember about this stage of life? In our house, we have a nightly dance party. I will dance with my son and think “these are the good old days.” I have pictures of our dance parties hanging on our wall because they are just so special to me. I will send you a questionnaire to fill out for your to brainstorm some of these things you guys love to do together.
HANGER MANAGEMENT
To ensure a smooth and enjoyable session for everyone involved, it's important to make sure your kids are well-fed before we start. A hungry child can quickly become grumpy or irritable, which can make it challenging to capture those beautiful moments you're hoping for.
I have found it is best to have kids eat either a full meal or some snacks before we start the session.
If your session is scheduled during a time when you would normally have a meal, I would feed your kiddo some snacks before the session. You can then pack some more snacks for the session. You can also bring a picnic to enjoy during the session. This can be a fun activity for your family and also ensure that everyone is well-fed and happy throughout the session.
Remember, a well-fed child is a happy child, and happy kids make for great photos!
During the actual session, I would make sure you have some snacks on hand. Bring something your child loves and maybe a few bribes too.
